Bee County Crime Stoppers needs the public’s help in finding the person who used someone else’s debit card without permission.
According to Beeville police, officers were sent to the home of a man living in the 700 block of West Morales Street on the evening of Dec. 31, 2009.
The 38-year-old victim said he had lost his wallet while shopping in the H-E-B Food Store earlier that day. He had a Social Security card, $250 in cash and a Navy-Army Credit Union debit card in the wallet.
The victim said he realized his wallet was missing at approximately 8:45 p.m. when he and his wife were getting ready to go out for the evening.
The man called police and invited them into his home to check on his on-line transaction history and officers learned at that time that someone had used his card to make some unauthorized purchases.
The account showed that someone had made $394.80 in purchases at the supermarket from the account not long after the victim noticed his wallet was missing.
The victim provided a copy of the transactions from his online account and investigators took that with them to the store where they reviewed security surveillance recordings in an effort to identify a suspect.
The video revealed the same man had used the card in making each of the purchases in the store.
Police described the suspect as being a Hispanic adult male with dark hair, wearing a baseball cap, white T-shirt with a logo and black pants. He also was wearing a ring on his wedding ring finger.
According to the time and date recorded on the camera image, the man had made purchases using the debit card at 6:07 p.m. and again at about 6:26 p.m.
At the time of the second purchase, the suspect was wearing different clothing, including a dark shirt.
Store officials were able to provide receipts of the items purchased by the suspect along with photos of the suspect at the registers conducting the transactions and entering the store.
